Camacho Cigars Takes Big Step towards Social Responsibility

On June 29, 2010 Camacho Cigars signed up for the Bayer Food Chain Management Program with Bayer CropScience, the world’s leader in crop protection and environmental science. Camacho Cigars gave executives from Bayer and select members of the media a tour of their tobacco fields and cigar factory in Honduras, followed by a press conference where the partnership was officially signed.

This step makes Camacho Cigars the world’s first tobacco company to comply with strict international standards for Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Agricultural Practices. Camacho Cigars joins other international companies under the Bayer Food Chain Management Program such as Heinz, Kraft and Nestle.

Under the partnership, Camacho Cigars promises to manage natural resources responsibly, to use only  bio-friendly pesticides and to follow industrial safety and biosecurity standards. This is a first of many steps that Camacho Cigars will take to ensure the highest quality cigars and social responsibility in creating them.

Christian Eiroa, President and CEO of Camacho Cigars, says, “”It’s an amazing feeling being the world’s first tobacco company to have partnered with Bayer CropScience. After five years of adopting Bayer’s standards for good agricultural and manufacturing practices, the official signing of this collaborative makes all of us very proud.”
